BA (Hons) Fashion Promotion and Communication with Integrated Foundation Year

During Year 1 you will focus on:

• Basics of fashion promotion, buying, and brand communications
• Conceptualisation and direction in fashion design
• Fashion illustration and life drawing techniques
• 3D draping and garment construction on the stand
• Techniques in fabric manipulation and digital printing
• Fashion styling and photography
• Brand identity management and creative leadership
• Prototyping, atelier practices, and digital tool usage
• Understanding industry trends and audience expectations

During Year 2, 3 and 4 of the course you will explore:

The flexible design of this fashion marketing course will enable you to tailor your studies to your individual fashion media passions. You will explore creative areas including:

• Fashion photography
• Film
• Advertising and digital marketing
• Digital communication
• Fashion styling and media production
• New media
• Social media
• Graphic design
• Brand communication.

The Integrated Foundation Year introduces the fundamental principles of fashion, design and creative problem-solving. Through studio-based projects, you will begin developing the core technical and creative skills needed for future study in fashion.

You will explore key themes across four areas:

• Diagnostic exploration: Making informed choices
• Technical: Applying technical knowledge in practice
• Specialist: Developing and innovating within a chosen pathway
• Integration: Building an integrated practice to support progression into Higher Education

Students will build knowledge and awareness of brand principles and the basics of how to bring together a fashion campaign.

Alongside this, they will learn key skills in photography, film, graphics, illustration and social media.

We encourage students to start thinking about their contextual studies research throughout this year.

• Exploring Fashion Marketing and Advertising: Perception and Storytelling
• Promotion and Communication Design 2
• Professional Life Practice: "Developing your Practice"

Students will gain a greater understanding of multi-platform campaign building.

At the same time, they will develop skills in building websites and writing market reports.

Our students go live at this stage, taking on a work-based learning opportunity.

• Critical Discourse in Fashion Promotion and Communication
• Digital Production, Interaction Design and Visual Communication in Fashion
• Fashion Narrative, Interfaces and Creation
• Professional Life Practice: "Applying your Practice"
• Work-based learning.

Students will be assessed on four components in their final year and we ask that they create a final major project from inception to realisation.

They will also work on a range of national and international competitions to showcase their skills and build a well-rounded professional portfolio.

We ask that they show their contextual studies research in a long form dissertation.

• Final Major Project (Body of Work)
• Fashion Media Curation, Presentation and Public Installation
• Professional Life Practice: "Situating your Practice".

At Ravensbourne we accept a wide range of qualifications for entry onto our courses, whilst also considering the context in which they were achieved. For this course, we would usually require a GCSE Grade 4 or above in English in addition to any of the below;

• Two A Levels at grade DD or above
• BTEC Extended Diploma at grade PPP
• Other/Mixed qualifications equivalent to 48 UCAS Tariff points

Selection criteria:

Students should ideally have a background in art, creative media or design.

There are no interview or portfolio requirements for this course.

Students will complete the course with a strong, industry-ready portfolio of visual work relevant to their career preferences.

Graduates will be able to pursue work in a number of fields including but not limited to: 

Public relations, online marketing, advertising and digital marketing, brand manager, art direction, styling, fashion photography, fashion events director, digital marketing, creative technologist, commercial film production, graphic illustrator, media designer, visual merchandiser, fashion writer, campaign manager, academics and teachers, archivist, brand managers, curator, copywriter, digital operations, data analyst/insights, display designer (window dressing etc), e-comms developer, graphic designers (placement print and/or point of sale), influencer/talent management, journalist, logistics, marketing manager, managing director/CEO.

Fashion Promotion includes a fully accredited work placement where students can apply their learnings to a professional environment.
