From classroom to television
With over 40 years’ experience training broadcast professionals, this hands-on digital television degree prepares you for careers in television, digital media, broadcast and video production.
Why study this degree?
This course is for students who want to make television, not write about it.
You’ll spend your time working with cameras, lights, sound and live production environments from day one, learning by doing in studios and on location.
- Develop your skillset on a TV production course that’s been a leading provider of high-end television training for 40 years
- Gain a vital first-class education in fast-paced live television broadcasting
- Learn in exceptional TV production resources and facilities
- Connect with your course mates in small class sizes, supporting personalised learning and tutor access
- Take advantage of strong industry links and dive into real-world projects on a course with excellent graduate employment outcomes
You’ll create your own TV shows using industry-standard facilities and gain experience across drama, documentary production, entertainment and factual genres, both in the studio and on location. You’ll learn live broadcasting, multi-platform content creation and emerging media technologies - covering TV format development, scriptwriting, pitching to commissioning editors and responding to real industry briefs.
Led by experienced broadcast professionals, our television production course blends practical training with theory through lectures, workshops, projects and independent study.
Graduates leave with strong technical skills, real production credits and the confidence to work on professional television productions straight away.

There are many highlights from my time at Ravensbourne, including working with the Royal Shakespeare Company, where we directed a live show with BBC presenters reaching hundreds of school children across the country.”
Entry requirements
At Ravensbourne we accept a wide range of qualifications for entry onto our courses, whilst also considering the context in which they were achieved. For this course, we would usually require a GCSE Grade 4 or above in English in addition to any of the below;
- Three A Levels at grade CCC or above
- BTEC Extended Diploma at grade MMM
- UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma
- T Level (pass or above)
- Access to Higher Education Diploma
- International Baccalaureate at grade 24 or above
- Other/Mixed qualifications equivalent to 96 UCAS Tariff points
Interview and portfolio requirements
Please note that a portfolio is not usually a requirement for this course.
However, we may still ask you for one if you have not met the entry requirements for the course or if your educational background is in a very different subject.
If we ask you to submit a portfolio, you will need to provide the following :
- An engaging showreel with a duration of 2-4 minutes that contains your skills and work. Please only include your best work
- If you have any materials such as mood boards, drawings or scripts that you made, please bring these along if you want to display them
- If you are particularly interested in TV sound bring along some audio work
- Photographs are acceptable if you want to display your lighting work or skills in framing and composition
It is beneficial if you show a passion for the television industry and can exhibit material that has been made by you outside of what is required for your formal studies.

Be hungry and willing to start at the bottom; that’s how it goes. I had a meteoric rise because of what Ravensbourne gave me and I really believe that.”
