How to apply through Clearing

Clearing is how universities fill any remaining places on undergraduate courses. It’s also your chance to apply if you haven’t received any offers, declined your offers, or applied late. Ravensbourne University also offers entry routes such as Foundation Years and Access Programmes for students who may not meet the standard entry requirements or want to build skills before starting their degree.

You can apply through Clearing if:

• You didn’t get an offer from a university.
• You declined all your offers.
• You didn’t meet the conditions of your offer.
• You applied after the June UCAS deadline.

Ravensbourne welcomes applicants to both undergraduate degrees and preparatory routes like our Foundation Year and Access Programme.

Clearing usually opens in early July and closes in mid-September. Most students apply though Clearing on or after A level results day on 13 August, but you can apply earlier if you already have your results. Visit our How to Apply page for further information.

Yes! If you’re joining Ravensbourne through Clearing, you can still apply for student finance to help cover tuition fees and living costs as normal. Visit the official gov.uk website for guidance and to apply.

As soon as you receive an offer, we’ll email you with next steps on how to accept it. We recommend choosing Ravensbourne as your UCAS Clearing choice as soon as possible. This secures your place and lets you progress with the rest of your applications such as accommodation and finance. If you don’t select us as your Clearing choice before the deadline stipulated in your offer email, it may prevent us from being able to confirm your place.

• Access to Higher Education Diploma
• Explore degrees with an integrated foundation year (4-year degrees)

Yes. International students can apply through Clearing. If you need a student visa, apply as early as possible so you have time for the process. We can advise you on your options, including Foundation Year pathways.

Yes. If you apply for Year 2 or Year 3 entry, we will forward your application to our admissions team for review.

We review applications as quickly as possible. If you send us all the required information, you might receive an offer the same day, sometimes within the hour. If we need to see a portfolio, it may take a little longer.

Yes, you can. Just give us a call and we’ll check if there are places available on the course you’d like to change to.

Absolutely. Give us a call first so we can make sure you meet the entry requirements and guide you through the next steps.

You’ll have 24 hours to let us know if you’d like to accept and add us as your Clearing choice through UCAS. If you need more time, just let us know, we’re happy to help.

We work with local accommodation providers and can help you secure a place, but availability may be limited closer to September. Contact us as soon as you accept your offer.

In UCAS Hub, you can only add one Clearing choice at a time, so choose carefully before confirming.

You don’t have to, but it can help you decide. We offer campus tours, 360° videos, and live chats during Clearing so you can get a feel for Ravensbourne.

Once you’ve decided to accept, add it in UCAS as your Clearing choice. We’ll confirm your place and send you your next steps.

It’s the final main route for the academic year. If you don’t find a place through Clearing, you could apply to Ravensbourne for the next intake or next year.

For some of our courses at Ravensbourne University London, you’ll need to submit a portfolio as part of your Clearing application. Don’t worry if your portfolio isn’t perfect, we’re looking for your potential, creativity, and ideas, not just polished work. You can include sketches, photography, digital projects, videos, or anything else that shows your skills and passion. Yes, you can. You’re welcome to apply through Clearing while waiting for your appeal results. Any offers will be based on your current grades, but if your appeal changes your results, just let us know, we’ll be happy to review your application again.
