Before he'd graduated in 2019, Elliot had already secured his first industry role working with the London Stock Exchange Group Studios working as a multi-skilled operator.
He now works across various productions from short promotional videos to live multi-camera studio shows. As a multi-skilled operator, he does everything from managing the camera to sound and lighting operating and from directing to vision mixing and editing.
When looking into which university to study at, Elliott was struck by the range of facilities on offer to Ravensbourne students.
As well as access to state-of-the-art facilities, another key benefit of studying at Ravensbourne was its strong links to industry.
During the course, Elliott was able to build up his connections with prominent people within the industry and worked on live briefs for the likes of the Royal Shakespeare Company.
One of the highlights of Elliot's time at Ravensbourne was working on his final major project with three other students to create a live broadcast of a banger car race. Commenting on this he said: “This project not only allowed us to show what we were capable of but also allowed us to reach out to new and existing contacts to ask for advice.”
Achieving professional goals
Throughout the three-years of study, Elliott was able to sharpen his own skills and learn what he was most passionate about.
After showing a particular interest in vision mixing, he was able to gain valuable experience working as a runner on television broadcasts. This in turn, led to him securing work as a Freelance Technical Director at news website, Reuters working on its daily bulletins and live shows.
His advice to other students is: “Remember, TV is a small world and people know each other, so your reputation is important. Be humble and if you are working on productions, give it your all as you never know who in your class will be a great contact to work with in the future”.
