From classroom to television
With 40 years of experience as a leading course provider, our Digital Television Production degree immerses you in the creation of studio shows, live events, and episodic drama, equipping you with the skills needed for a successful career in the media and television industries.
Why study this degree?
This course is for students who want to make television, not write about it.
You’ll spend your time working with cameras, lights, sound and live production environments from day one, learning by doing in studios and on location.
- Make TV content every week using professional studios, galleries and location equipment
- Work on live productions, including outside broadcasts and live‑streamed events
- Gain hands‑on experience across drama, documentary, entertainment and factual production
- Produce real work for real audiences – including live football matches, music shows and public events
- Learn directly from industry professionals with extensive broadcast experience
- Build a practical portfolio made up of filmed work, not academic essays
- All students complete work experience, helping them build confidence and industry contacts before graduating
Graduates leave with strong technical skills, real production credits and the confidence to work on professional television productions straight away.
Entry requirements
At Ravensbourne we accept a wide range of qualifications for entry onto our courses, whilst also considering the context in which they were achieved. For this course, we would usually require a GCSE Grade 4 or above in English in addition to any of the below;
- Three A Levels at grade CCC or above
- BTEC Extended Diploma at grade MMM
- UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma
- T Level (pass or above)
- Access to Higher Education Diploma
- International Baccalaureate at grade 24 or above

Interview and portfolio requirements
Please note that a portfolio is not usually a requirement for this course.
However, we may still ask you for one if you have not met the entry requirements for the course or if your educational background is in a very different subject.
If we ask you to submit a portfolio, you will need to provide the following :
- An engaging showreel with a duration of 2-4 minutes that contains your skills and work. Please only include your best work
- If you have any materials such as mood boards, drawings or scripts that you made, please bring these along if you want to display them
- If you are particularly interested in TV sound bring along some audio work
- Photographs are acceptable if you want to display your lighting work or skills in framing and composition
It is beneficial if you show a passion for the television industry and can exhibit material that has been made by you outside of what is required for your formal studies.

Toby Gorman quote
Be hungry, be willing to start at the bottom, that’s how it goes. I had a meteoric rise because of what Ravensbourne gave me and I really believe that.”
Alumni stories
quote
There are many highlights from my time at Ravensbourne, including working with the Royal Shakespeare Company, where we directed a live show from the heart of Ravensbourne to hundreds of school children across the country, with professional BBC presenters.”
