BSc (Hons) Business Computing with Integrated Foundation Year

Year 1 will introduce you to the fundamental principles of computing and digital problem-solving. This foundation year gives you the time, space and support to explore your strengths, build confidence and prepare for the demands of project-based, industry-focused learning. Modules are as follows:

• Module 1: Diagnostic exploration - making informed choices
• Module 2: Technical - Technical knowledge in practice
• Module 3: Specialist - Innovating specialist practice
• Module 4: Integration - Integrated practice for progression to Higher Education

Year 2 of the course will see students engaging with designing and developing software, as well as the fundamentals of business and project management.

Modules may include*:

• Software Design and Development
• Information Security and Risk Management
• Immersive Technologies
• Operations and Project Management
• Professional Life and Practice 1
• Professional Life and Practice 2

Year 3 of this course will build on the foundations developed in the first year, helping students expand their knowledge and expertise of both business and computing.

Modules may include: 

• Business Intelligence and Data Analysis
• Digital Product Management
• Full Stack Application Development
• Work Based Learning or Live Project
• Professional Life and Practice 3

The final year further develops the students’ business and technological acumen, and will culminate in a large final project, designed to allow students to demonstrate their learnings from the three-year programme.

Modules may include:

• Enterprise Systems and Cloud Computing
• Technology Entrepreneurship
• Capstone project
• Professional Life and Practice 4

The course will be assessed through formative, summative, practical, peer and reflective assessment. 

Formative assessments, such as quizzes and group discussions, are designed to provide ongoing feedback and support learning throughout the course.

Summative assessments will take place at the end of key modules and include presentations and project reports.

Practical assessments evaluate students’ ability to apply theoretical knowledge, and may include case studies or design projects.

Peer assessments help to promote self-reflection and critical thinking, helping students build on their analytical and evaluative skills.

Reflective assessments such as journals encourage personal growth and awareness of learning processes. 

Graduates from this course can enter roles including, but not limited to, business analyst, information technology consultant, systems developer, e-commerce specialist or data analyst.

Potential future sectors that graduates may enter include digital marketing, software systems management e-commerce and creative enterprise. They may also continue onto further study through MSc programmes in a business or technology field.

At Ravensbourne we accept a wide range of qualifications for entry onto our courses, whilst also considering the context in which they were achieved. For this course, we would usually require a GCSE Grade 4 or above in English and Maths in addition to any of the below;

• Two A Levels at grade CC or above
• BTEC Extended Diploma at grade MPP
• Other/Mixed qualifications equivalent to 48 UCAS Tariff points

There are no interview or portfolio requirements for this course.
