If you are studying the BA (Hons) Digital Content Creation with Integrated Foundation Year version of this course, key topics of your integrated foundation year will include:

• Core principles of media communication design

• Editing, lighting, and sound design

• Utilisation of digital labs, photography studios, broadcasting, and multimedia facilities

If you choose to add an Integrated Foundation Year on this course, you will be first introduced to the fundamental principles of design. Your foundation year gives you the time, space and support to explore your strengths, build confidence and prepare for the demands of project-based, industry-focused learning. Modules are as follows*:

• Module 1: Diagnostic exploration - making informed choices

• Module 3: Specialist - Innovating specialist practice
• Module 4: Integration - Integrated practice for progression to Higher Education

Please note: Students starting this course with the Integrated Foundation Year in September 2026/27 will study the 2027/28 approved modules in Years 1, 2 and 3.

Year 1

In the first year, you'll learn the basics of digital marketing and experiment with photography, video, podcasting, web design, and copywriting.

You’ll explore graphic design principles, branding, and SEO techniques to help audiences find content. You'll also study digital ethics, consumer psychology, and start pitching to clients.

Year 2

In your second year, you'll deepen your skills in social media marketing and brand strategy.

You’ll explore advanced video production, including motion graphics and animation, and apply user research to design an app prototype.

You’ll also focus on building professional connections, staying updated on industry trends, and gain hands-on experience through a work-based learning opportunity.

Year 3

In your third year, you'll refine your skills and prepare for life after Ravensbourne by responding to client and competition briefs and collaborating with peers.

You’ll build a portfolio that highlights your best work, boosting your employability and showing you’re industry-ready.

In your final semester, you’ll research the future of the digital landscape and bring together your skills to create strategic content for a self-directed project of your choosing.

Year 1

Master content creation fundamentals - including photography, video editing, social media strategy and branding - while developing client pitching skills.

Year 2

Advance your video production, cinematography and motion graphics skills while building integrated campaigns featuring influencer marketing and PR.

• Immersive Media
• Live & Work-based Learning

Year 3

Prepare for industry by collaborating on live client briefs, building a professional portfolio and executing an ambitious self-directed strategic content project to launch your career.

Modules may include:

• Situating Practice
• Live Pitch
• Marketing Research & Methods
• Competition Briefs
• Rave Futures
• Major Project

All modules are subject to revalidation.

A variety of learning and teaching methods are employed in this course. 

These include but are not limited to:

Practical projects, portfolios, written and reflective work, pitches and presentations, lectures, seminars, workshops, group work, online learning, tutorials, critiques, and external visits.

The course is assessed entirely by coursework.

Occasional travel into central London for trips is expected at approximately £50 per year. 

Note on laptop costs: A laptop for photo and video editing as well as basic motion graphics is essential. An external hard drive is recommended.  If a new purchase is needed, budget approximately £600–£1,200 as a one-off cost, ideally timed for the start of Year 1. Shared studio computers are available on campus for students who do not yet have their own device.

At Ravensbourne we accept a wide range of qualifications for entry onto our courses, whilst also considering the context in which they were achieved. For this course, we would usually require a GCSE Grade 4 or above in English in addition to any of the below;

• Two A Levels at grade CC or above
• BTEC Extended Diploma at grade MPP
• UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma
• T Level (pass or above)
• Access to Higher Education Diploma
• International Baccalaureate at grade 24 or above
• Other/Mixed qualifications equivalent to 64 UCAS Tariff points

Interview and portfolio requirements

Admission onto this course is also subject to successful completion of a portfolio (or showreel). 

If you wish to study our BA (Hons) Digital Content Creation degree course, we will need to see examples of previous of digital media and/or design work that showcases your suitability for the course.
