This course in London equips you with the advanced knowledge to create and implement complex designs and technology projects. You’ll explore systems for communication, content creation, and visualisation, while adopting experimental approaches to your work.

Collaborating with peers and industry, you’ll tackle innovative projects and explore cutting-edge technologies like AI, Web3, digital fashion, the metaverse, AR, VR, and XR.

This postgraduate degree will complement Ravensbourne’s existing fashion courses and is a natural progression from the Digital Technology for Fashion Pathway available on the BA (Hons) Fashion undergraduate course. Ravensbourne is known for its strong industry links. On this course you will benefit from live industry projects as well as collaborations between other students and courses.

Home

A lower second-class honours (a 2:2, or equivalent non-UK qualifications) or higher in a relevant subject, or an equivalent professional qualification in a related subject. You will also need to submit a copy of your Curriculum Vitae (CV)/Resume.

If you are applying directly from an undergraduate degree course without experience or professional practice, you must be able to demonstrate a good knowledge of your chosen subject area.

International

If you have international qualifications, please view our entry requirements per country. Along with your academic qualifications, you will also need to submit a copy of your Curriculum Vitae (CV)/Resume.

In order to be eligible for this course, you will need to be a competent speaker and writer of English. If you require a Student Visa you need to provide us with an IELTS or equivalent English language qualification, which demonstrates a minimum of 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each sub test) or CEFR Level B2 in each component. Selection criteria

We welcome suitably-qualified applicants who are able to demonstrate a good level of skills in areas associated with this subject. To get a holistic view of your ability and aptitude to succeed on the course, we will also consider your enthusiasm and interest in the subject area, how you manage the creative process, previous study and your professional skill-set.

Applications are welcome from a wide range of backgrounds and experience including from students who may not necessarily possess formal academic qualifications. It is important that applicants can demonstrate an aptitude for learning and continued professional development through a research-led approach. 

Interview and portfolio requirements

Admission onto this course is also subject to successful completion of an interview and portfolio (or showreel). 

If you wish to study this course, we will need to see examples of previous art, new media and/or design work that showcases your suitability for the course. 

In person interviews

If you attend your interview in person, you will present a variety of work in the form of a physical portfolio and supporting sketch books. We accept all sizes of portfolio from A3 to A1.

  • A physical portfolio of work that represents their primary, secondary research and completed projects
  • Minimum of 10 pages of design development drawing skills that represent each project or most recent work
  • All sketch books are crucial. These should demonstrate your research methods, concept development, ideation, colour, fabric and fashion application were applicable
  • Any garments that have been designed and manufactured by the applicant should be brought to the interview. We also recommend you photograph your garment on a model and include this in your portfolio

The portfolio and sketch books can also include:

  • Evidence of drawing skills and in particular observation skills
  • Life drawing quick sketches
  • Life drawing longer study drawings
  • Colour palette development, colour sensitivity and concept development
  • Evidence of design development and extensive experimentation
  • Textile experimentation, finished ideas and testing, feature development
  • Ability to develop from 2D into 3D resolution( photographs of final garments is adequate)
  • Draping in the stand and ability to capture shapes and silhouettes
  • Evidence of Illustration skills and the ability to communicate through illustration
  • CAD skills using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop; this could be in illustrations or technical drawings(CAD skills not essential as we do teach this)

Online interviews

Digital portfolios should include some or all of the above elements scanned and presented in the form of a clearly laid out and easy to navigate file.

The Ravensbourne materials library is curated by Material ConneXion, a business that introduces brands to the latest material innovations.

The materials scientists at Material ConneXion select innovative materials relevant to the courses at Ravensbourne and that reflect current trends in design and manufacturing.

Samples of these materials are then added to the library so students and staff can browse the physical collection for inspiration, material ideas and applications.

The library hosts 1,500 material samples and an interactive table for further research and access to the Material ConneXion database.
