Bursaries and scholarships

Students in receipt of an Advanced Learner Loan from Student Finance England to fund their level 3 Access to Higher Education course, may be eligible for support from the advanced learner loan bursary fund. The money can help pay for things like:

• travel
• course materials and equipment
• childcare.

This funding is provided by the ESFA and therefore, strict eligibility criteria apply.

Eligibility

Students must be in receipt of an advanced learner loan and have a household income of £35,000 or less.

How to apply

Students can apply for an advanced learner loan bursary by completing the on-line application form and provide the Bursaries team with:

• A copy of your advanced learner loan statement
• Personal bank statements for the past 3 months
• A completed student budget planner (available online or from the student services team).

And one of the following as proof of your family's household income. If you are over 25, we will require evidence of your annual income:

• a letter from the department of work and pensions showing receipt of benefits
• a P60 from the last tax year
• a tax credit award notice
• copies of online statements for universal credit (last 3 months).

Students applying for childcare support should download the childcare provider form which needs to be completed by the childcare provider.

Student Finance England will ‘write off’ any outstanding Advanced Learner Loan balance you owe against your Access to HE course, once you complete and Graduate from an undergraduate degree course.

The higher education course must be eligible for student finance.

If you made extra repayments towards your Advanced Learner Loan before starting a Higher Education course, these repayments are non-refundable.

The Pre Degree Hardship Bursary provides additional support to Access to HE students who are facing unforeseen financial difficulties.  Awards are made based on individual need assessment.

The Pre Degree Hardship Bursary is not a loan and does not need to be repaid. Support is available to assist with living and course equipment costs. 

There is no guarantee that any applicant will be eligible for or awarded a bursary.

Family Action has been distributing grants to help people and families in need since they were founded in 1869.  They know that by giving a small grant when it’s needed the most, they can remove immediate financial barriers, thereby helping families to work through the bigger issues they’re facing.

• have accessed the maximum support available to them from the Student Loans Company
• are paying tuition fees of £9,790
• are studying at Ravensbourne Greenwich Peninsula Campus
• have a household income of £25,000 or less, as declared to SFE or 
• have a household income of £35,000 or less and meet one or more of the following criteria:
  • a care-leaver
  • irreconcilably estranged from family
  • a mature student
  • disabled
  • BAME background
  • a carer
  • have a parent in the Armed Forces
  • live in a low University participation area.

Students should contact the Student Services Team directly if they find themselves homeless or in crisis.

• are joining Ravensbourne to study an undergraduate degree course at the Greenwich Peninsula campus in 2026/27 academic year
• are paying home tuition fees of £9,790

• have a declared household income of £35,000 or less

How to apply

Students will not have to apply for the scheme, they will be emailed with details of how to activate their account within 4 weeks of confirmation of registration on course.  If students already own an appropriate laptop, they can apply the Aspire scheme credit to other course equipment on the online shop such as tablets and digital equipment or design materials.

Students or parents will be able to top up the funds on the account during the year.

This bursary provides financial support to students entering higher education direct from Local Authority Care. It is a lump sum payment of £1000 payable at the start of February following confirmation of attendance in Semester 2. 

Eligibility

Students must:

• be paying home tuition fees of £9,790
• have approved care leaver/experienced status from the Student Loans Company
• have accessed the maximum support available to them from the Student Loans Company.
• be studying an undergraduate degree course in 2026/27 academic year.

How to apply

Students should advise Student Finance England when applying for tuition fee and maintenance loans that they are care experienced. They will be required to provide a confirmation of care experience letter from their local authority for care leaver status to be approved. Students with SFE Care Leaver status will automatically be eligible for this £1000 award during each year of study.

If you are a young carer, there is likely to be a significant impact on your wellbeing as a result of your caring role. Ravensbourne are able to offer you some additional financial support. 

Eligibility 

Students must:

• be studying an undergraduate degree course at the Greenwich Peninsula campus in 2026/27 academic year
• be paying home tuition fees of £9,790
• have accessed the maximum support available to them from the Student Loans Company
• have a household income of £35,000 or less, as declared to SFE

And provide evidence of one of the following categories:

• Working with a recognised Young Carers Organisation in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland, or
• Previously in receipt of Carer’s Benefits, or
• Notification letter from family GP or Social Worker.

How to apply

Students should contact Student Services providing evidence listed above. Eligible students will receive £1000 payable at the start of February upon confirmation of attendance in Semester 2. 

Applications will need to be made for each year of study. 

Ravensbourne will reimburse students in receipt of DSA equipment allocation, the £200 upfront fee they are required to pay to access their support.

• be studying an undergraduate degree course at the Greenwich Peninsula campus in 2026/27 academic year

Ravensbourne has additional financial support available for our estranged/independent students in the form of a lump sum payment of £1000, payable at the start of February following confirmation of attendance in Semester 2.

• have accessed the maximum support available to them from the Student Loans Company.

Students should apply for Estranged/Independent status when applying for their tuition fee and maintenance loans from Student Finance England (SFE).

For 'under 25 and self funding' status - you will be required to provide financial evidence to demonstrate your independence for the period of 3 years prior to the first day of your course. Students with approved SFE 'under 25 and irreconcilably estranged' or 'under 25 and self-funding' status will automatically be eligible for this £1000 award. 

25/26 Graduates may be eligible to apply for the Ravensbourne Graduation Bursary. This award will help with the cost of your tickets, gown hire and photographs to record the day. In some circumstances, funding towards travel expenses is also awarded.

Eligibility

Student must:

• have graduated from an undergraduate degree course in 2025/26 academic year
• have been enrolled at Ravensbourne Greenwich Peninsula campus
• have paid home tuition fees of £9535 in 25/26 academic year
• have been invited to attend a Graduation Ceremony in 26/27
• have a household income is £25,000 or less, 
• have accessed the maximum maintenance loan support available to them from the Student Loans Company in 2025/26 academic year

It is often difficult for care leavers and estranged students to find someone who is willing to act as a guarantor when booking accommodation. It is an equal challenge to provide a co-signer when booking with a guarantor provider like Housing Hand and to find the fee for the service.

As part of our pledge to support our care leavers and estranged students, we are working in affiliation with Housing Hand to offer a free, no co-signer required, guarantor service to qualifying students.

The internal progression award is a one-off award of £500 paid at the start of February of the student's first year on their undergraduate course.

Eligibility

This award is available to all new undergraduate students who studied and are progressing directly from a Foundation Diploma or Access to HE Course at Ravensbourne University London, Greenwich Peninsula Campus.

How to apply

Qualifying students are not required to apply for this award. Payment will automatically be arranged following confirmation of attendance in Semester 2 at the start of February in the first year of an undergraduate course.

This bursary is aimed at mature learners joining an undergraduate degree course at Ravensbourne in September 2026/27. Priority will be made to mature learners joining direct from completing an Access to HE course in 2025/26 academic year.

Eligible students will receive up to £1500 towards the cost of sustenance, travel and course equipment.  If requested, funding can be added to the student’s Aspire account to help towards the cost of a laptop.

Students must be:

• over the age of 25 on the first day of course
• be paying home tuition fees of £9,790
• have accessed the maximum support available to them from the Student Loans Company
• be studying a year 1 (level 4) undergraduate degree course in 2026/27 academic year
• have a household income of £25,000 or under.

Students with a household income of up to £35,000, will receive an automatic cash award of £500 per academic year of study.

Eligibility

The Ravensbourne bursary is available to home/UK undergraduate students, who:

• are studying at level 3, 4, 5 or 6 on a undergraduate degree course in 2026/27 academic year.
• are paying home tuition fees of £9,790.
• have an approved means assessed maintenance loan from the Student Loans Company.
• have a household income of £25,000 or less (Home undergraduate students only) OR
• have a household income of £35,000 or less, as declared to SFE (Home undergraduate students only) AND meet one of the following criteria:
  • are under 25 and a care-leaver as declared to SFE (home undergraduate students only) 
  • are under 25 and irreconcilably estranged from family as declared to SFE (home undergraduate students only) 
  • are a mature student (over 25 on first day of course)
  • with disabilities and chronic medical conditions which may affect paid employment (home undergraduate students only) 
  • have carer responsibilities (home undergraduate students only) 
  • who live in a low University participation area (home undergraduate students only)

Students do not need to apply as they will automatically be assessed for eligibility against our criteria when they apply for Student Finance with the Student Loans Company. 

When will it be paid?

Year 0, 1 & 2 (level 3, 4 & 5) students will receive £500 on or around 5 February 2027 following successful progression to Semester 2.

Year 3 (level 6) students will receive £500 cash on 27 November 2026 following confirmation of attendance on course. 

Please note:

• The Ravensbourne bursary is only paid once per course level. Students repeating a year will not be eligible to receive the award again.
• Recipients of The Ravensbourne bursary are also able to apply for other sources of bursary funding.
• Attendance and engagement on course may be taken into consideration.

The Pre-arrival Travel Bursary is designed to help new home undergraduate students with the cost of travelling to Ravensbourne during the first few weeks of Semester 1, before their first Student Finance England (SFE) maintenance loan payment is received.

Award

• Up to £100 towards travel costs.
• Payment will be based on the cost of your daily commute and supporting evidence provided.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must:

• Be paying Home fees of £9790
• Hold a firmly accepted offer to study a full-time undergraduate degree course at Ravensbourne University London starting in September 2026.
• Be travelling to our Greenwich Peninsula campus from London Zone 5 or beyond.
• Provide evidence of your daily return travel fare.

How to Apply

Students will be required to submit:

• A completed online application form
• Proof of their confirmed place to study at Ravensbourne University London, Greenwich Peninsula Campus. 
• Evidence of their daily return rail fare (for example, train ticket pricing, season ticket costs, or journey planner evidence).

• Funding is limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis until the fund is exhausted.
• Priority will be given to students travelling the greatest distances from campus.

This bursary complements Ravensbourne's wider package of financial support available to students experiencing financial barriers to accessing higher education.

The Amazon Future Engineer bursary is a national bursary programme aimed at supporting women A-level and BTEC/OCR (or Scottish equivalent) students from low-income households who wish to study computer science or related engineering courses at UK universities.

Accelerating the careers of women in Engineering

Women are still significantly underrepresented in engineering and technology in higher education. UCAS data on university application and acceptance figures for the 2020 cycle1 highlighted that women represent just 16% and 18% of accepted applications to computing and engineering degrees respectively. At the current rate of progress, parity of women on engineering degrees will not be achieved until 2085. We cannot wait that long.

Awardee benefits

These bursaries aim to help address underrepresentation and accelerate the rate of progress. They will provide successful women applicants with a financial support package worth £5,000 per year for up to four years of study to cover expenses related to attending university, including tuition fees or accommodation and living costs. 

By removing some of the financial barriers that may impact on university studies and career trajectory, recipients can remain committed to their courses and stand the best possible chance of success.

Awardees will also gain exclusive access to networking groups to meet positive role models, interact with like-minded peers, build long-term relationships, and benefit from collaboration opportunities.

The LNS has been set up to directly tackle the architecture profession’s lack of diversity by awarding architecture scholarships to disadvantaged young people from London’s neighbourhoods. 

The Trust offers a £10,000 per year for students studying an undergraduate degree in architecture to cover material costs and living expenses.

The Save the Student Bursary is aimed at helping prospective students from low-income and disadvantaged backgrounds access the essential items they need to begin their university journey.

Save the Student awards £750 to six new students, jointly funded by their partners at JS Group. 

The funding is administered via the JS Group's award-winning Aspire Cash service, ensuring a quick, easy and secure delivery of the funds. Students will be able to use the bursary to purchase laptops, bedding, kitchenware, and other university essentials.

Eligibility

Students must be:

• UK domiciled
• Starting an undergraduate degree course in the coming academic year
• Paying home fees of £9790
• Have a household income of £40,000 or less
• Have an open UK bank account

Key dates:

• Wednesday 22nd April – Applications for the bursary open at 12.01am.
• Friday 26th June – Applications close at midday.
• Week of the 13th July –  the top six candidates will be contacted to let them know they've been shortlisted, and proof of eligibility requested.
• Week of the 27th July – If any of the six candidates fail to respond or provide adequate proof of eligibility by the 27th July, they will be excluded from the process and replacement candidates selected instead.
• Thursday 13th August (A Level Results Day) or soon after – the final six candidates will be contacted to confirm they've been accepted onto a university course and ask for proof. If everything's in line, the bursary will be awarded.

The Helen Lansdown Resor Scholarship offers a $10,000 scholarship towards your education for five creative women each year.

The scholarship is open to any woman studying in a creative field with an interest in advertising and a least 12 months remaining in their course. 

In addition to the financial offering the scholarship programme includes an internship with J. Walter Thompson, one-to-one mentoring and first-look at a placement after graduation. 

Applicants will need to submit their application form, personal statement, letter of recommendation and 3 - 5 creative samples.

The Royal Television Society (RTS) runs two pioneering schemes – the TV Production and Journalism Bursary and Digital Innovation Bursary. 

In addition to the core schemes, the RTS introduced the Beryl Vertue Scholarship in 2022, to support an applicant with an interest in producing, the Andy Taylor Foundation Scholarship in 2025, to support applicants with an interest in digital content production and distribution, and the Steve Hewlett Scholarship to support aspiring journalists.

All Bursaries are awarded to talented students from low-income backgrounds studying an undergraduate degree or HND Level 5 or 6. 

The RTS will consider candidates studying all subjects: including but not limited to TV Production and Journalism; Humanities and Social Sciences; and STEM related courses. What is important is an evident interest in pursuing a career in television, film or related media industries.

The Bursary Scheme provides:

• Minimum of £1,500 financial support per academic year
• Free access to all RTS events, screenings and lectures
• Networking opportunities
• A personal industry mentor
• Free RTS Membership
• Free place on the RTS Mini MBA upon graduation

What are Chevening Scholarships?

Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations.

Available in over 160 countries and territories, the scholarships are awarded to outstanding emerging leaders to pursue one-year Master’s degrees in any subject and at any UK university.

Chevening Scholars have ambition and leadership potential, a strong academic background, and an excellent record of rising to prominent positions in their countries.

There are over 44,000 Chevening Alumni around the world, together forming an influential and highly regarded global network.

Who can apply for a Chevening Scholarship?

Chevening Scholarships are for talented people who have been identified as potential leaders across a wide range of fields, including politics, business, the media, civil society, religion, and academia.

Applicants should be high calibre graduates with the personal, intellectual and interpersonal qualities necessary for leadership.

The DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) is the largest funding organisation dedicated to promoting the international exchange of students and researchers.

Ravensbourne is partnered with International Students House (ISH) to give our international students access to financial support from the Mary Trevelyn Hardship Fund. 

Eligibility

Students must meet all of the following criteria to apply for the Mary Trevelyan Hardship Fund:

• Studying full-time at Ravensbourne University London
• Be studying on an International Student Visa
• International tuition fees must be paid up to date
• In financial need due to unexpected circumstances

A Postgraduate Master’s Loan can help with course fees and living costs while you study a postgraduate master’s course.

You can get up to:

• £12,471 if your course starts on or after 1 August 2024
• £12,167 if your course started between 1 August 2023 and 31 July 2024
• £11,836 if your course started between 1 August 2022 and 31 July 2023
• £11,570 if your course started between 1 August 2021 and 31 July 2022

The amount you’ll get is not based on your income or your family’s.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) may take account of the loan when working out any benefits you receive.

The loan is paid directly to you. You can use it for your course fees and living costs.

If your course lasts for more than a year, the loan will be divided equally across each year of your course.

If you are starting a postgraduate course in the coming academic year you may be eligible to apply for a Postgrad Solutions Study Bursary. 

Each bursary is worth £2000 and they are open to students from anywhere in the world. See their website for eligibility and terms and conditions as this bursary scheme is external to Ravensbourne - Postgrad Solutions Study Bursaries.

This bursary is available to international students who face an unexpected financial crisis that may jeopardise their ability to continue with study.

Small discretionary payments to offer interim support could be offered to eligible students. In some cases, the funding will be offered in the form of food vouchers.

Eligibility

Students should:

• be studying an undergraduate degree course at Ravensbourne in 26/27 and
• paying international tuition fees
• be up to date with tuition fee payments
• have maintained attendance in line with university attendance policy

Please be advised that there is no financial support available towards tuition fees and funding cannot be offered to students with tuition fees outstanding.

How to apply

Please complete the online application form* and provide the following supporting evidence:

• Your Tenancy Agreement (if applicable)
• Statements in pdf. format for all bank accounts including savings, for the past 3 months
• Completed student budget planner (click link to access)

The BFC MA scholarship is awarded to a graduate from one of the BFC Colleges. The funding, which is from the British Fashion Council Education Foundation, is given to support graduates who have been offered a place on a UK MA fashion design course, and who, for financial reasons, would be unable to accept their place on the course without support.

Ravensbourne is committed to providing assistance to our students who find themselves in unexpected financial hardship. The Postgraduate Hardship Bursary is given to students who face an unexpected crisis that may jeopardise their ability to continue with study.

About 

The Postgraduate Hardship Bursary is not a loan and does not need to be repaid. Support is available to assist with living and course equipment costs. 

There is no guarantee that any applicant will be eligible for or awarded a bursary. 

Awards are usually paid in 2 termly instalments. All applications will be assessed for a full academic year. 

The award is for maintenance only; no award will be made for tuition fees nor payment made to students with fees outstanding

We will notify you of the decision on your application within 20 working days of receipt of your application, providing all details and full supporting evidence are supplied. If any evidence is missing, the decision on your application will be delayed. 

Eligibility

The Postgraduate Hardship Bursary is available to postgraduate students, who:

• are enrolled to study at the Greenwich Peninsula Campus 
• demonstrate that they have made realistic provision at the start of the course to fund both the course tuition fees and living costs for the duration of the course otherwise you will not be eligible for consideration for the Hardship Bursary. 
• have a household income of £35,000 or less.

How to apply

Students are asked to complete the on-line application form* and supply copies of the following evidence:

• Masters Loan statement 26/27 (if applicable)
• Evidence of any other loans/scholarships to support studies (if applicable)
• Bank statements for past 3 months
• Tenancy agreement (if applicable)
• Weekly/monthly payslip (if applicable)
• Completed student budget planner
• Evidence of any benefits received (if applicable)

And one of the following as proof of your family's household income. If you are over 25, we will require evidence of your annual income:

• a letter from the department of work and pensions showing receipt of benefits
• a P60 from the last tax year
• a tax credit award notice
• copies of online statements for universal credit (last 3 months).

Ravensbourne will check attendance, academic progress and engagement as part of our assessment process.

Depending on individual circumstances, students may also be required to meet with a member of the Finance Support Team to discuss additional forms of support and money management.
