Ravensbourne University London students recently took part in the London Venture Crawl, joining peers from across the capital for a day of workshops, industry visits and a live pitching competition designed to support the next generation of entrepreneurs.

A total of 12 students and one graduate attended, representing a wide range of courses including Digital Film Production, MSc Strategic Marketing and Analytics, MBA Fashion: Business and Entrepreneurship, Character Design & Concept Art, Digital  Content Creation, BSc Business Management, Fashion, MSc Project Management, MSc Computer Science and 3D Animation.

The day began at the Small Business Research + Enterprise Centre, where students took part in a workshop exploring the support available to entrepreneurs in London. Delivered by Business Adviser Mohib Ali, the session introduced funding opportunities and market research platforms, alongside advice from business experts.

Students were then given a tour of the Guildhall, including the City of London model, which showcases a detailed 3D-printed representation of London’s skyline, blending historic and modern architecture.

Following this, the group visited London Filmed, a digital-first event production and creative media company, where co-founders Nicholas Forster and Tom Mohan delivered a talk and Q&A session. They shared their honest thoughts about building a business, discussing both the challenges and opportunities involved in starting out.

Students also toured the company’s office and had the opportunity to test live-streaming equipment. The visit was further enriched by meeting a number of Ravensbourne alumni currently working within the organisation.

Later in the day, students visited Somerset House, where they met Ravensbourne alumni who have launched their own businesses after taking part in the university’s SEEDS and Start-Up programmes. These included Ella Sutherland, founder of Taut Haircare; Daryl Vincent, Creative Director at Fail Forward Games Ltd; and Meda Mosiejute, founder of MEDMO.

The session provided students with the opportunity to ask questions and hear directly from graduates who have successfully transitioned into entrepreneurship.

The day concluded with a London-wide pitching competition at King’s College London, where Ravensbourne student Arath Hernandez, a third-year BSc Cyber Security student, represented the university.

Arath delivered a 90-second pitch for his app, Spiritus, which aims to support individuals experiencing mental health challenges through prayer and spirituality. Competing against students from institutions including Imperial College London, LSE and UAL, he received a special commendation from the judging panel, marking the first time in the event’s 10-year history that additional recognition was awarded beyond the overall winner.
