Ravensbourne University London have announced the launch of a new suite of courses in digital technologies. The courses are designed to prepare students for the multitude of exciting career paths emerging in computing and digital marketing and includes cloud computing and cyber security courses created in collaboration with AWS Educate, Amazon’s global initiative to provide students and educators with the resources needed to accelerate cloud-related learning.

The digital technology sector accounted for £184 billion turnover in the UK economy in 2018 according to the Department of International Tradeemploying over 2.1 million people.*

Starting in September 2020, Ravensbourne will begin teaching four new courses, which apply the university’s longstanding creative heritage to the development of cutting-edge digital skills. The courses offer a unique insight into how digital technologists support businesses across the creative industries, giving students the opportunity to collaborate with their counterparts in design, media, and fashion.

In addition to the launch of BA/BSc (Hons) Digital Marketing and BSc (Hons) Creative Computing, Ravensbourne will also introduce courses in BSc (Hons) Cyber Security and BSc (Hons) Cloud Computing, which have both been developed with input from AWS Educate as part of a joint effort with Career Colleges Trust UK. AWS Educate worked closely with Ravensbourne to help them to develop a curriculum programme which maps directly to high-demand jobs in cloud computing. The programme will up-skill students and help better develop the workforce of tomorrow. This collaboration brings together industry experts as well as employers alongside Ravensbourne.

Commenting, Dr Gary Pritchard, Pro Vice Chancellor, Academic said, “Our new digital technology courses draw on Ravensbourne’s rich history of tech-based education — from Broadcast Engineering in the 1970s to our more recent BA (Hons) Games Design and BA (Hons) Editing and Post Production courses. This new initiative will form the bridge between our historic commitment to creativity and an aspiration to help meet the significant demand we are seeing within the creative industries for digital computing specialists. We are delighted to be working with AWS Educate to help ensure our offering is both practical and relevant to the needs of industry.”

“Ravensbourne University has a history of incorporating advanced approaches and the latest technology to improve student outcomes across their arts, media, and music education,” said Ken Eisner, Director of Worldwide Education Programs for AWS and head of AWS Educate. “We value Ravensbourne’s forward thinking in collaborating with AWS Educate to bring the cloud into their creative offerings and provide their students with robust pathways into cloud careers.”
