BSc (Hons) Cyber Security with Integrated Foundation Year

Year 1 will introduce you to the fundamental principles of computing and digital problem-solving. This foundation year gives you the time, space and support to explore your strengths, build confidence and prepare for the demands of project-based, industry-focused learning. Modules are as follows:

• Module 1: Diagnostic exploration - making informed choices
• Module 2: Technical - Technical knowledge in practice
• Module 3: Specialist - Innovating specialist practice
• Module 4: Integration - Integrated practice for progression to Higher Education

In Year 2 students will be introduced to the Professional Life Practice modules that are embedded in each undergraduate learning level.

These modules specifically support collaborative experimental practice, entrepreneurship, and enterprise, helping to catalyse, develop and showcase interdisciplinary working methods interaction and innovation.  

The modules will also facilitate opportunities to integrate with industry partners in order to establish professional currency at the start of the undergraduate journey, and to drive enterprise and employability through the degree experience.

Skills acquired in Year 2 are developed further through a combination of workshops, lectures, seminars, group exercises, self-directed study, as well as individual or group tutorials.

Students will test their developing disciplinary knowledge in collaborative scenarios with the opportunity to take part in the Professional Life Practice Modules, and Work Based Learning Modules, offering collaborative and industry aligned opportunities both within Ravensbourne and within industry,

At the end of Semester 2, students will have the opportunity to undertake a work-based learning experience. The Work Based Learning module will offer students the ability to engage with industry-led experience supporting industry interactions, entrepreneurship and employability skills.

• Ethical Hacking
• Professional Life Practice - Applying your Practice
• Work-Based Learning.

In your final year, you will develop and perfect your skills through lectures, seminars, workshops, self-directed study and individual tutorials.

Students are expected to take on professional attitudes to time and project management.

Visiting lecturers may be invited to deliver lectures and/or practical sessions related to their area of work and students will develop an outward facing portfolio to aid graduate progression.

• Advanced Secure Programming
• Professional Life Practice - Situating your Practice
• Final Project
• Risk and Project Management.

At Ravensbourne we accept a wide range of qualifications for entry onto our courses, whilst also considering the context in which they were achieved. For this course, we would usually require a GCSE Grade 4 or above in English and Maths in addition to any of the below:

• Two A Levels at grade CC or above
• BTEC Extended Diploma at grade MPP
• Other/Mixed qualifications equivalent to 64 UCAS Tariff points
