Wogan's Web (1998)

Concept and creative process

A daily live show in which the viewers set the agenda and Terry Wogan attempted to answer their postal, e-mail, fax and telephone queries and comments. BBC Entertainment in London commissioned the broadcast design team at BBC Resources at New Broadcasting House in Manchester to produce an identity – including logo, onscreen design system and title sequence for ‘Wogan’s Web’, presented by national treasure and BBC Radio 2 star Terry Wogan. ‘Wogan’s Web’ would bring the unique humour and style of TOGS – Terry’s Old Geezers and Terry’s Old Gals - to BBC One.
The client at BBC Music Entertainment was producer Paul Smith. BBC Resources designers Gregory Millar and Ian Bate were supported by senior designer Mark Allen.
The creative thought behind the title sequence was that ‘Wogan’s Web’ is seen as a fun place - like the show itself - where Terry can discover absolutely anything. He was filmed against green-screen at Elstree Studios in London, and the footage was then combined with computer-generated graphics. The sequence was edited and post-produced on Quantel Harry at 4:2:2 in Manchester.
