The Voyage Of Charles Darwin (1978)

Concept and creative process

Titles for a series based on the life of the famous naturalist. During his five year voyage on HMS Beagle, Darwin kept a journal to record one of the most important scientific journeys ever made. The title sequence made extensive use of illustrations by contemporary artists with whom Darwin collaborated to bring his notes and sketches to life. The individual illustrations were filmed on a rostrum camera together with the composite artwork which was the background for the episode titles.
