Victoria Wood: As Seen On TV (1985)

Concept and creative process

Titles for a series of stand-up, sketches, songs and social satire from Victoria Wood and regular guests Julie Walters, Celia Imrie, Duncan Preston and Susie Blake. The titles took the form of a witty plasticine stop motion animation commissioned from Aardman Animation in Bristol. A model Victoria Wood was filmed one frame at a time in a typically energetic performance, so energetic that an arm dropped off, which was quickly replaced by the animator’s hand in vision as part of the animation. The titles, also made from plasticine, were animated on around her, reacted to by the movement of her head, hand and eyes.
