Tomorrow's World - TW Time Machine (1997)

Concept and creative process

Opening titles for the ‘Tomorrow’s World Time Machine’, a TW spin-off programme that looked back on what had happened to the innovations that had featured on the show, including news from one particular year and gadgets that had disappeared without a trace. Designer Piers Helm spent several days trawling through the TW Archive looking for iconic shots from previous title sequences that depicted the history of the show and some of its presenters. He then created the time travelling title sequence and the TW Time Machine logo on a Quantel Hal, using smoke effects which he manipulated to create the time tunnel-effect through which the historic footage flew from the past.
