Rhodes Around Britain (1994)

Concept and creative process

A title sequence for one of the top British TV chefs, the late Gary Rhodes, who was a frequent performer on his own and other people's TV shows. His passion was for British food and ingedients and he explored this in his culinary tour of the UK 'Rhodes Around Britain'. The idea was to be new, dynamic and exciting and shake off the ‘Delia’ image of the kitchen. His personality, chef's outfit and signature spiky hair became the familiar brand image of Gary Rhodes' cookery programmes and this title sequence, for the series which launched his solo TV career in 1994, did much to create that image. The neat idea of the map of Britain and Northern Ireland made up of chopped herbs on a plate and a nicely designed typographic logo lifted the sequence with a surprise ending.
