The Paul Daniels Magic Show (1979)

Concept and creative process

Opening titles for a series of programmes in which television's top comedy magic star entertained in his own unusual fashion and introduced the remarkable skills of his guests. Peter Clayton decided on a neon look for the titles, animating in a limited way like billboards in London’s West End and synching perfectly with the music and voice-over. The artwork for the animation was prepared as back-lit Kodaliths and filmed on a rostrum camera with mattes, allowing the separate exposure of the colour and the white, captured in-camera  with additional flare filters.
