Omnibus (1976)

Concept and creative process

Opening titles for the long-running arts documentary strand ‘Omnibus’ which aired from1967 until 2003. The titles needed to capture the spirit of an arts series without being specific to any one art form. The target audience was all ages with an interest in the arts.
In 1976 working to the same brief, Bob Blagden explored the idea that we perceive artistic performance mainly through our senses. For his third title sequence for 'Omnibus' he had plaster copies made of the mouth, ear and eye of Michael Angelo's famous sculpture 'David’, and using dramatic chiaroscuro lighting, he mixed between the close-up facial details as a prelude to the animating of the redesigned ‘Omnibus’ logo onto the screen.
