Concept and creative process
Opening titles for a series featuring a mixture of sketches and stand-up comedy from Eric Morecambe, Ernie Wise and guests. For the titles, the five versions of the ‘Eric & Ernie’ titles were filmed back lit on a rostrum camera with a black matte, pegged to a panning bar on the rostrum animation table, covering up one version and revealing the next. Eight titles for ‘The Morecambe & Wise Show’, also made as clear on black Kodaliths and coloured with yellow gels, zoomed in four staggered pairs from the top and bottom of screen simultaneously and converged in the centre screen as a single image, before mixing through to the studio.
