The Editors (1981)

Concept and creative process

Titles for an investigative journalism programme ‘The Editors’, which examined the pressures on the press worldwide. For the title sequence, typographic artwork was prepared and printed as alternate rows of the word ‘Editors’, so that the lines of type could be panned simultaneously in opposing directions and filmed on the rostrum camera. An octagonal matte was also filmed on top of the panning background, allowing a variety of media related images to be exposed within the vignette during a second pass through the camera. The title itself was shot back-lit on the rostrum with a camera flare technique.
