Belief in Britain - programme sequence (1981)

Concept and creative process

For the documentary 'Belief In Britain' a major census of the people's views on Religion, Politics, Education etc. was carried out and required a programme content sequence to illustrate the findings. Different styles of illustration and technique were employed to add entertainment to these statistics e.g. William Blake's painting style was reflected in the religious statistics. All sequences were filmed in 35mm on a rostrum camera using two techniques. Illustrations were drawn on long cels and panned through camera on one level while others were placed on several multiplane levels in order to give depth and parallax as the levels moved. Percentage type overlays were double exposed over the sequences.
