Ravensbourne students from across our TV courses had the amazing opportunity to work abroad in Egypt to help film the COP27 conference at the end of 2022.

Five Ravensbourne students and one recent graduate worked at the major international event, which was held in Egypt from Sunday 6 to Friday 20 November 2022.

They were employed by the production company Tell Media, getting real-world, paid professional experience, as well as valuable experience working overseas.

COP27 was the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference. Representatives from governments around the world attended, where they discussed how the world should adapt to climate change.

UK prime minister Rishi Sunak, US president Joe Biden, and many more world leaders were in attendance.

The students – Niall Hayes, Lia Saunders, Harry Lorrell, Louis Morel, and Tyler Evans, alongside graduate Jayden Okeyemi – filmed streams, stages, and talks at the event. They are currently studying on our BA (Hons) Digital Television Production and BSc (Hons) Broadcast Engineering courses.

They took on essential roles such as stream technicians, technical assistants, camera operators, and multiskilled operators. Their subjects included the UK government’s stand at the event, where they filmed talks by delegates; politicians presenting their climate plans; and many other events.

The opportunity was orchestrated by Tom Ellis, the founder of Tell Media and himself a Ravensbourne alumnus. He graduated from the BA (Hons) Editing and Post Production course four years ago.

Speaking to the Ravensbourne news team, Tom said: “It’s important as an industry that we continue to train students to work on the current technology and production methods used in the industry.

“The job is very hands on and the better equipped they are to enter industry after graduating, the better for everyone.”

Tell Media has a close, on-going collaboration with Ravensbourne, and has worked with the university at corporate events and London Fashion Week. They also attend our recruitment open days for students.
