Ravensbourne University London inspires next generation of talent at RIBA’s Festival of the Future

Ravensbourne University London proudly took part in the recent 'Festival of the Future', held at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) headquarters in March, where members of its creative community played a key role in inspiring the next generation of city-makers.
As part of the two-day event, two of Ravensbourne’s Architecture alumni spoke directly with small groups of young attendees about their career journeys — offering valuable insights into diverse pathways across the built environment sector, from lighting design to environmental consultancy.
Current students Fabiana Stan and Kristina Isallari also presented their final major projects during the SEW + TELL event, hosted by Studio Egret West.

This experience has taught me that good things happen when you try and are not scared to share your ideas with the world.”
Organised by Beyond the Box in collaboration with RIBA Learning, the festival attracted more than 2000 young visitors, aiming to make Architecture and placemaking more inclusive, participatory, and accessible. The programme featured interactive workshops, skills training, talks, and mentoring opportunities hosted by leading practices and organisations from across the UK.
Ravensbourne’s involvement extended to the main debate stage, where Head of Architecture — Alberto Villanueva — joined a panel to share his thoughts on the importance of engaging underrepresented communities in shaping the built environment.
Alberto Villanueva quote
At Ravensbourne, we believe it’s essential to engage with initiatives like the 'Festival of the Future' that champion innovation, imagination, and accessibility in Architecture and the built environment. This was a phenomenal opportunity for our community of staff, students and friends to engage with the public, share ideas, and be inspired by the future generation of city-makers. This is what we do in our curriculum, and we are proud to be one of the universities supporting this event.”

The festival also included contributions from key players in the industry, including Heatherwick Studio, Woods Bagot and Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, as well as talks from figures spanning academia, design, and sustainability. Beyond the Box’s approach to embedding young people throughout the programme as participants, facilitators and storytellers made the event uniquely dynamic.
Neil quote
Collaborating with Ravensbourne University London is always a joyful and impactful experience. Their creativity, energy, and commitment to shaping the future through design and innovation perfectly align with the spirit of the 'Festival of the Future'. It’s a privilege to work alongside such talented students and staff to inspire the next generation.”
