Fashion Technology for Fashion Pathway

With advancements in digital technology set to completely transform the fashion world, students on the BA (Hons) Fashion course can now choose the Digital Technology for Fashion Pathway as part of your second year studies.

This pathway has been structured to equip the next generation of designers with the latest digital tools to bring ideas to life in this rapidly evolving industry. This is the very first course of its kind to dedicate an entire pathway to delving deeper into digital fashion innovation.

Calling all fashion students

This pathway is suitable for ...

  • Students currently studying year one of a degree at another university but who wish to transfer to Ravensbourne to study on our BA Fashion course.
  • Current Ravensbourne second-year students who wish to choose the Digital Technology for Fashion Pathway as one of their modules.
Digital Technology for Fashion Pathway

Rave Digital collaboration

Ravensbourne BA (Hons) Fashion and BA (Hons) Games Design students have united to showcase their designs on 3D avatars. Their revolutionary project, titled Rave Digital, has been celebrated by the likes of Vogue, Forbes and LOVE magazine. This is the first fashion course in the world to embark on such a project.

In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, Ravensbourne students thought of how best to showcase their work in the absence of a physical degree show. National lockdown meant fashion students temporarily lost access to the machines and equipment needed to create their garments so had to consider alternatives. In a period of just six weeks, our Fashion and Gaming students created 'Rave Digital', a downloadable game that displays fashion designs on 3D digital avatars.

What can this course do for me?

The course will take a practice-based approach to utilise cutting-edge technologies such as CLO 3D and Marvellous Designer. Designers will be guided through sessions led by industry trailblazers in early digital fashion adoption. These sessions will explore the likes of avatar modelling, digital garment design, character rigging, world building and digital environments, augmented reality, virtual reality and 3D scanning.

With collaboration at its core, designers on this pathway will work to live industry briefs and engage in multidisciplinary projects with students across other courses. These projects will give designers the opportunity to try their hand at the creation of immersive VR environments, virtual garment fittings, sensory experiences, holograms and much more.
