The Trials Of Life (1990)

Concept and creative process

Opening titles for ‘The Trials of Life’, a nature documentary series examining animal behaviour, presented by David Attenborough. The creative thought behind the concept for the titles was the extraordinary variety of techniques employed by animals to launch their offspring with a good chance of reproducing themselves. The idea of replication became the central motif in the sequence, with multiple versions of different animals digitally composited along pathways, which crossed and spiralled over one another to create the final circular programme logo and 3D lettering. The titles were created at 4:2:2 Videographics on a Quantel Harry.
