Summer Holiday (1997)

Concept and creative process

The sister summer programme from the ‘Holiday’ production team used the original 1996 animated opening title sequence with some new live action clips and a new endboard. The fluid watercolour animation style of Damian Gascoigne was perfectly suited to this subject matter, as had already been shown in the 1992 and 1996 ‘Holiday’ titles, which he animated for Christine Buttner (Green). The frames for the holiday footage were originally designed on a Quantel Paintbox and the watercolour animation paintings were scanned into the system and composited digitally with the live action on a Quantel Henry.
