The Slate (2000)

Concept and creative process

Opening titles for ‘The Slate’, an arts review programme looking at art and culture in Wales. The title sequence took the form of the coverage of a fictitious launch event, capturing live action shots of a crowd of people arriving for the preview in party mood and fancy dress. The titles listed the programme’s main areas of focus – Art, Music, Dance, Film, Stage and Image – and the background shots were filmed using a Steadicam to get close to the dance action and mingle with the crowd of revellers. The preview scene on the elevated screen was filmed separately and the blue-tinted film was composited, along with the titles and the programme logo in a digital post-production edit.
