Parkinson (1982)

Concept and creative process

Opening titles for the long-running talk show, in which Michael Parkinson conversed with a series of celebrity guests. The titles for this series were created in a 2D computer animation of outline rectangles and squares which zoomed from out of screen to coalesce and form a stylised portrait head of Michael Parkinson. The outline grid was progressively filled in by a white leading edge to display a high contrast portrait of Parkinson in two tones. This wiped back to the blue outline portrait again before metamorphosing to form the new ‘Parkinson’ logo, which was retained over the live studio shot for the host’s appearance.
