Mad About Music (1992)

Concept and creative process

The titles for the Schools Programmes series 'Mad About Music' were inspired by the work of animation pioneer Len Lye. The brief was to create titles to encourage teenage interest in making music, without resorting to clichés, featuring kids or musical instruments. I developed the concept together with the music composer, Richard Attree at BBC Radiophonic Workshop. I created an animatic which was developed further by the animator, Iain Hewitt, drawing directly onto 35mm film. The resulting footage was composited on a Quantel Harry at Framestore by Mike McGee. Designer/Director - Christine Buttner (Green).
