Lifesense (1991)

Concept and creative process

From the BBC Natural History Unit team that created the award-winning 'Supersense', pioneering techniques revealed our lives from the animal's point of view in this nature documentary series ‘Lifesense’. A specially made 3D model of a landscape, reminiscent of parts of the human body, was filmed and acted as a surface onto which white and black silhouettes of various species in motion were composited in post-production. The final camera move resolved in the recognisable close-up profile of a human head, front-lit against a fiery setting sun. A flock of geese in flight was silhouetted against the sun as the programme title and subtitle animated on.
