Lenny Henry Gets Wild (1996)

Concept and creative process

Titles for a series of stand-up comedy, sketches and surprises, starring Lenny Henry. Designer Bernard Heyes interpreted the show’s title literally and created a frenetic sequence from the Lenny Henry logo he had designed. Each letter was created in CGI 3D animation and continuously warped and bent, as was the show footage of Lenny Henry in character and as himself, that was tracked and contained within each letterform. All of the 3D elements were composited over a colourful 2D animating background of letterforms and shapes. Finally, the 3D Lenny Henry logo spiralled up from infinity to be joined by the remaining 3D elements of the programme title, completed by a zoom in and mix to the live studio.
