Concept and creative process
Titles for ‘The History Trail’, a history series for Schools and Colleges, presented by Lorain Bertorelli. A variety of live action shots of sand running through an hourglass, symbolising the passage of time, were filmed in a studio. Still images, contrasting the theme of ‘then’ and ‘now’, were shot with panning movements on a rostrum camera, together with soft-edged mattes to match the shots of the hourglass and the programme title. All of these elements were combined in an optical printer in the film laboratory.
