The Generation Game (1990)

Concept and creative process

Bruce Forsyth hosted a fun family gameshow, in which family couples of different generations competed in a test of their general knowledge and skill to win big prizes on the conveyor belt. This title sequence was quite a departure aurally and visually from previous incarnations which had featured Bruce Forsyth and wacky moments with previous contestants, with the title song sung by Brucey himself. The animated sequence had a voice fed through an electronic filter and was choreographed and drawn in a free-flowing graphic animation style by Brian Larkin (Animation People). The filmed scenes were composited in a digital edit with some 3D CGI elements of stars and spheres which gave the whole sequence the feel of having been computer generated.
