Fire In The Blood (1992)

Concept and creative process

‘Fire in the Blood' was a documentary series about politics and life in Spain. The brief was to incorporate live action shots provided by the production and to link them stylishly. To unite a diverse selection of live action shots, I monochromed them and to link them used a series of Spanish themed wipes in red and yellow, the colours of the Spanish flag. I commissioned some specially made and sourced props - fake Spanish money, red and yellow flamenco dolls, lemons and red roses and finally a red and yellow bullfighter's cape, embroidered with the programme title. The lettering was hand rendered and then embroidered and appliquéd with machine stitching and embellished with black glass beads. A day filming at Damson Studios setting up each sequence and then a digital edit at Framestore wrapped up the sequence.
