Comedy Playhouse Presents (1974)

Concept and creative process

The ‘Comedy Playhouse Presents’ title sequence was created by means of the simple typographic solution of using bright colours and fast cutting between the words of the title set in a variety of fonts and sizes. It was shot on a rostrum camera filming back-lit clear on black Kodaliths of the words with a variety of coloured gels, in sync to the title music by Ron Grainer. All of the editing was done in-camera, working from a prepared dope sheet based on timings taken from the music track, so it was shot in one take from start to finish with no further editing necessary.
