Absolutely Fabulous (2001)

Concept and creative process

Opening titles for the comedy series revival in 2001, which featured Eddy and Patsy still growing old disgracefully in the world of fashion and celebrity. The design of the titles perpetuated the colourful typographic idea, successfully explored by Bernard Heyes in the 1992 original series and Betty Jackson in the 1995 follow on, but now rendered it through colourful spray graffiti on a white wall which gave the whole sequence a much more chaotic and grungy vibe. Gone was the smart Vogue style lettering of 1995 and the Robert Indiana ‘LOVE’ inspired 1992 titles and all that remained was an upbeat sense of street culture, yet still unmistakably ‘Absolutely Fabulous'.
