An MA Illustration student has had her artwork published by Londnr magazine after being shortlisted in a competition for professional artists.

Emma Cheesman entered the magazine’s ‘Summer in the City’ competition, which tasked entrants with depicting what summer in London means to them.

Londnr is an online and print magazine that covers culture, the arts, lifestyle, and more in the capital. The winner of the competition had their artwork used on the cover of the Londnr summer issue.

Emma’s entry is a mixed media piece featuring characters that she has been developing as part of her Master’s degree in MA Illustration.

Emma quote

Emma said: "I hope that completing an MA in illustration will be just the beginning, and that a career full of bright colours and my topsy-turvy characters will follow. Doing what I enjoy for a living is the dream."

Talking about her inspiration for the work, she added: “Summer in London to me is all about sitting in parks with friends and family, sipping on drinks and grazing on snacks in the sun.

“This is the first illustration competition I have entered, so I feel proud to have been selected as one of 20 shortlisted illustrators, especially as student. It's provided me with the confidence to keep entering future competition.”
