Laura Stargala BSc, MArch, AIA
Biography
Laura is a German-American architect interested in the creation of hyper-proximal artefacts and spaces. Based in London, she is the founder of the design studio Of Here, and co-founder of the architectural practice Ryala, in collaboration with Timothée Ryan. Prior to starting her own practices, she practiced at Pezo Von Ellrichshausen, Junya Ishigami, and Herzog & de Meuron.
Laura finds meaning in a close engagement with land, its available resources, existing building methodologies, and material experimentation. Along with hands-on engagement with masonry projects around the peripheries of London, she has worked on multiple architecture projects across France, the US, the UK, and the Scottish Highlands. She recently held a lecture and workshop at the AA titled ‘Dry Stone Deconstruction’ and has been invited as a guest critic at the Bartlett School of Architecture.
Laura graduated with a BSc and a Master's of Architecture from Cornell University, where she also worked as a teaching assistant. She has won several awards including the AIA Yann Weymouth Graduate Scholarship, Women’s Auxiliary Eleanor Allwork Scholarship, Eidlitz Fellowship, Lyceum Travel Fellowship, and the Eschweiler Prize for Merit and Distinction. She is a registered architect and member of the American Institute of Architects.
