DigitalHack Lab
Empowering researchers, students and community partners to design and create sustainable solutions for complex challenges through digital innovation and systemic thinking.
Overview
Purpose
The DigitalHack Lab addresses growing recognition that many contemporary challenges require systemic rather than technical solutions.
Challenges such as sustainability, social equity, community resilience and organisational transformation can all benefit from the application of digital tools and design methodologies. Exploring these complex problems through the development of innovative tools are often applied narrowly, but by taking a systemic route, the DigitalHack Lab creates a space where digital capability is combined with systems thinking and community co-design, generating solutions grounded in a deep understanding of context, need and continued resilience.
The Lab facilitates both industry and student collaborative projects incorporating international partnerships that create evidence of cross-sector research and knowledge exchange. These projects bring staff and students into contact with real organisational challenges, building applied research skills and enabling networks. The Lab also explores collaborative funding opportunities to further its work and expand its reach.
The Lab commits to generating innovations that will be adopted by international development programmes, ensuring research outcomes contribute directly to addressing global development challenges. By 2028, the Lab aims to demonstrate measurable adoption of its design methodologies by international organisations addressing equality, climate change and community resilience along with other pressing concerns as we continue to build better worlds together.
