Identification documentation for enrolment

All students need to demonstrate, at the point of enrolment, that they have the relevant documentation to undertake their course at Ravensbourne. Find information below for the following:

UK and Irish citizens

If you are a UK or Irish citizen, you need to provide one of the following during enrolment or re-enrolment:  

UK citizens 

  • British passport (ID page) or;

  • Birth certificate-long form and additional documentation as per: https://www.gov.uk/check-british-citizen (only for British citizens who do not hold  a passport) 

  • Birth certificate remove 

  • Certificate of naturalisation or     registration as a British citizen 

  • If you hold a GB passport but this has expired, you will also need to provide some additional documents the same combination that would be required for a DBS application.

Irish citizens 

  • Your passport (ID page) 

When providing your passport, ID card or other relevant identification documentation online (electronic copies) please ensure that the copies are clear and that you provide both sides of the document(s) where relevant. 

EU or overseas student

If you are an EU or overseas student that needs legal documentation to studying in the UK you must provide it at enrolment or re-enrolment. 

If you are unable to demonstrate that you have a valid immigration status you will not be entitled to enrol at the university, and we reserve the right to end the contract on written notice to you and withdraw you from your course (without liability to you). We shall not be responsible for any related or ancillary costs or losses you incur. 

When providing your passport and/or immigration status document (s) online (electronic copies) please ensure that the copies are clear and that you provide both sides of the document(s) where relevant.

EU and overseas student requirements

Information for continuing students

Enrolling as a continuing student 

If you are continuing or repeating a year of study, you will need to enrol online before returning to your studies. 

If you are not a British citizen and the immigration document, you previously provided to us has expired or you are returning from interruption or a period of non-attendance or you are an EU national/eligible family member who previously did not provide us with evidence of status under the EUSS you must provide us with the following documents (you will be advised whether you need to submit the documents electronically or in-person):  

  • Your passport (ID page)

  • Your BRP or share code confirming digital immigration status or 

  • Letter/email from UKVI confirming submission of a valid immigration application. 

Pending applications

If you have an application pending for any of the above immigration categories, we reserve the right to contact the Home Office (UKVI) for confirmation of your right to study before allowing you to commence enrolment.  

We will ask you to sign a form which grants us permission for the Home/UKVI Office to share information about you and your immigration history/status.  

Please note, such requests can take five or more working days to process. 

Pending appeals 

If you have an outstanding appeal against a Home Office decision to refuse an application for any of the above immigration categories, Ravensbourne will contact the Home Office/UKVI for confirmation of your right to study before allowing you to commence enrolment. We will ask you to sign a form which grants us permission for them to share information about you and your immigration history/status.  

Please note, such requests can take five or more working days to process. 

Change in circumstances 

We understand that circumstances may change. If this is the case and you no longer meet the conditions under which you were granted UK immigration permission, you may lose the right to study even though you have a valid residence card or other proof of immigration status, eg. your permission to stay is on the basis of your relationship and your relationship breaks down permanently.
