Young Musician Of The Year (1982)

Concept and creative process

Opening titles for a national music competition, broadcast biennially on BBC Television, presented by Humphrey Burton. The competition was to find the most talented young musician in classical or contemporary music, played on woodwind, brass, piano or strings. Music was written for the titles and was played by the finalists for the studio filming. Long overlapping dissolves gave the sequence a sought-after lyrical quality, and were combined with the logo in a film optical.
