Worlds Apart (1982)

Concept and creative process

Opening titles for ‘Worlds Apart’, an anthropology series produced by BBC Bristol about different ways of life in different parts of the world. Designer Maggie Perry (now Bone) used an array of male and female pictorial symbols from different cultures throughout history. From line artwork of the symbols, clear on black Kodaliths were made photographically and filmed back-lit on a rostrum camera with coloured gel overlays.
