Words And Pictures (1976)

Concept and creative process

‘Words and Pictures’ was a long-running Schools series for 6-7 year olds, designed to help children with their reading through storytelling. The idea for the titles revolved around a witch and a wizard in competition with each other to bring characters to life by magic. Whenever one created a character, the other made it disappear again. In the end the good fairy successfully animated on the title. The sequence was traditional cel animation and was shot on a film rostrum camera, with audio effects specially composed to picture.
