Why Don't You...? (1976)

Concept and creative process

Opening titles for ‘Why Don’t You…?’, a series presented by children who suggested ideas for activities and interests for other kids to do as an alternative to watching TV. The whole programme logo was placed on an abstract, coloured background and broken down by a series of jump cuts into the separate words, filmed on a rostrum camera and intercut with live action studio shots of the children/presenters. A final panning shot again revealed the complete logo. The long-running show ran for an astonishing 42 series between 1973 and 1995, pulling in 3 million viewers at its peak.
