Westminster Week (1990)

Concept and creative process

Titles for a Sunday weekly series ‘Westminster Week’. Christopher Jones introduced the week's best speeches, most telling moments and wittiest asides, as well as taking a look at politicians at work in the Commons and the Lords, and in the Committee Rooms. The title sequence featured the Palace of Westminster and the daily ritual of the Speaker’s procession from the Speaker’s House to his Chair in the House of Commons, to call the House to order for the start of the day’s proceedings. This monochrome live action was composited over a graphic montage of irregular vignettes, derived from shapes in the official Crowned Portcullis logotype, and coloured in the corporate House of Commons green (Pantone 364) and supplementary yellow (Pantone 7403). The sequence was animated, coloured and composited on a Quantel Harry and combined with a 3D computer-generated animation of the Crowned Portcullis Logo and type.
