TV50: Television And Natural History (1986)

Concept and creative process

Titles for a TV50 programme ‘Television and Natural History’, in which Desmond Morris traced the development of natural history film on television, showing changing technology and changing attitudes towards animals. It was one of a number of programmes broadcast in 1986 in a celebration of 50 years of BBC Television broadcasting since its launch. The computer-generated TV50 generic branding for the strand, designed by John Salisbury, preceded the title caption for this and all of the other TV50 programmes. The opening sequence for ‘Television and Natural History’ consisted of an edited montage of iconic live action clips taken from BBC Natural History programmes and compiled in a video edit.
