Trinity Tales (1975)

Concept and creative process

Billed as six tall stories on the road to Wembley, ‘Trinity Tales’ was a latterday 'Canterbury Tales' with lyrics by Alan Plater and Alex Glasgow and music by Alex Glasgow. In the titles, designer Paul Howell paid homage to the Chaucerian connection on a specially designed round beermat, printed with the programme logo and a circle of illustrations of the original pilgrims. Stills of the modern characters on the journey, a traffic sign, a team rosette and a foaming pint perpetuated the circular theme with the revolving beermat revealing the programme logo at the end.
