Concept and creative process
The original ‘Top of the Pops’ show format consisted of archival footage from recent performances, or an exclusive performance recorded in the main ‘TOTP’ studio for ‘TOTP2’. Paula Williams’s titles used a 'rewind' theme to represent the show's rewound content. She filmed abstracted objects in a studio on 16mm film with bold 'pop' colours, using practical lighting effects. The sequence was edited and composited at Red Post Production on Flame.
