Top Of The Pops (1968)

Concept and creative process

The biggest stars, the most iconic performances, the most outrageous outfits – it was Britain’s number one pop show, ‘Top of the Pops’! Originally broadcast weekly on BBC1 from 1964 to 2006, ‘TOTP’ became the world’s longest-running music show. The titles for 1968 featured a countdown from 20 to 2, using the numbers and the well-designed ‘TOTP’ neon-style logo used in the 1967 edition, intercut with live action close-up shots of musical instruments and discs being cut and played on a turntable.
